At the start of our company in 2009, 10 years ago, the Dutch market for solar panels was 20 Megawatts (80,000 solar panels). The most efficient panels passed the magic limit of 250 Wp. Our market is currently about 2 Gigawatt in size (factor 100 in 10 years !!) and efficient solar panels produce well above 350 Wp. Shell stepped out the solar business in our founding year, but Shell has embraced solar energy for a number of years now, bearing “if you can’t beat them… join them” in mind. Next to Shell our government developed as well: people complained in 2009 that the government failed to support solar energy, nowadays we even see protests against dynamic climate policy.

The market has not only developed in volume in recent years, but also in quality: there are many new entrants, new positions and companies, and people have specialized. Due to growing interests, the market is increasingly being influenced by insurers, financiers, grid managers, labor inspectorates and other regulators.

At Switch2Solar we are convinced that the coming 10 years will be at least as turbulent; therefore, we have used our anniversary year for new foundations for further growth: we have a completely renewed training offer, a new website and also a new office building!
